While this is a good idea, the execution in one small detail has made this useless to me for it's intended purpose.GOOD:Strong gooseneckGood desk/table clampGood holding system for tablets (with a big caveat, see below in BAD)BAD:Styrofoam packing material!Plastic knuckle assembly makes this useless for heavier tabletsRatcheting tablet retention assembly feels cheapFirst, the packing material is styrofoam. This means that when you open the box, little styrofoam pellets will get all over your freshly cleaned carpet and clothes, and it will take 20 minutes to clean up the mess. Very bad choice, especially now with all the alternative recyclable packing materials available.The gooseneck is very strong. It holds whatever position you move it to, and will hold significant weight. The desk/table clamp is a standard cup and screw w/handle, and it will open fairly wide, although not quite wide enough for certain desks/tables. The holding system for the tablets is fairly good, as well, although the ratcheting mechanism feels cheap, and will probably break, as will the knuckle that holds the entire assembly to the tablet mounting pad.Here is where we find the fatal flaw in this product: the knuckle that secures the tablet retention platform to the gooseneck is made of cheap plastic, and it is held on with integrated plastic clips. The first time I mounted my wife's iPad to it, it broke in two pieces, and two small parts from the inside (a spring and a ball bearing) went flying, and the iPad fell onto the desk. Luckily, it was a short fall, so the iPad was not damaged.I was able to put the pieces back together without any trouble (good luck finding the spring and ball bearing), but the knuckle would not hold any weight. I re-purposed it for an electronics project, so it wasn't a complete waste, but I would never put a valuable tablet there. This piece could have been easily engineered to hold the weight of an iPad, or similar weight product, but corners were cut in exactly the wrong place. The knuckle should have been held together with screws or bolts or some other type of fastener, or it could have been fashioned out of metal, but some bean counter decided to be cheap and ruined the product.
