Shortly after buying my Kindle DX, I discovered that the one-pound device becomes tiring to hold during hour-long reading sessions. I was reluctant to lay the DX flat on a desk or table because its smooth back would let it slide around -- especially when the "page turn" button was pressed -- and I was concerned that the sliding would scratch the desk and the back of the DX. I went to my local hardware store and purchased four small rubber stick-on feet, which I affixed to the back of my DX. This solved the sliding problem and mitigated the fear of scratching the desk. But then a second problem arose. Being hunched over, trying to read a Kindle that is laying flat on a desk is, quite literally, a pain in the neck. It was then that I turned to this multi-position reading stand.Twenty dollars seems to be a bit much to spend on a single piece of 6x6-inch molded plastic, but this stand took all the pain out of using the DX for extended periods of time. The stand comes with two sets of stick-on feet: one set rubber, like those I bought at the hardware store, which prevents the stand from sliding; and another set felt, which lets the stand slide a bit without scratching the desk or table upon which it is placed. You just pick the set of "feet" that you want, stick them on to the bottom of the stand, and that's it. (Being stick-on, the feet are not interchangeable, so choose wisely.)The Kindle simply slides into one of two slots on the top of the stand. One slot elevates the Kindle 15 degrees from horizontal -- good for intensive desk work -- and the other slot positions the Kindle 15 degrees from the vertical -- good for sitting back and doing casual reading. The Kindle can be placed in either portrait or landscape orientation in either of the slots. With the exception of the 15 degrees from vertical, portrait orientation, the power cord can be attached to the Kindle while it is mounted in the stand; although you can get around the exception by placing the Kindle in the stand in inverted portrait orientation with the power cord attached.The Kindle must be removed from any cover or case for it to fit into the stand. For me, this was not an issue since I carry my Kindle in a slipcase. Others, who securely mount their Kindle inside a cover or protective case, may find the need to remove the Kindle from the case in order to use this reading stand annoying to the point where they do not want to bother with this stand.The manufacturer, Kradle, provides more detailed specifications for this and other Kindle reading stands on their website; however, this one -- the SQ KA-333G -- seemed to suit my needs the best. Ultimately, despite the price, I bought two of these stands: one for home, and one for the office. They make using my DX very convenient.
