A friend recommended this case so that I could use my nook in the bathtub, by the pool, and at the beach. Another reviewer suggested doing a "paper towel" test, which I did upon receiving the case. After testing the "waterproofness" of the case by submerging it with a paper towel inside with the towel remaining competely dry, I felt confident for it to protect my nook. It's great to continue reading a book even if I'm close to water, sand, etc.
