OK, I saw this as a reader plus multimedia gadget but mainly I bought it for the reader aspect. I have a Kindle, and a Literati. The Literati is a color screen, just eReader that I use for night. This seemed like it would be nicer because of the size (more square screen) and the beauty of the colors. I wanted to give my night reader Literati to my husband and use this instead. It hasn't work out.Problems ---- No way to put you books in order other than add to favorites. Not good if you have a lot of books loaded like I do. Adding to favorites is a 3 step process and too time consuming. Then getting into favorites is a step and you are not returned there after reading a book.-- Took a long, long time to charge then only lasted less than a day. I believe I may have got a bad battery. I've had it now 3 or 4 months and the battery is even worse.-- The inverted night screen of white letter or a black background, for low light, is ruined by two bars at the top and bottom of the screen. A header and footer that doesn't invert colors. You can actually change to multiple colors for both the background or the letters but the header and footer remain bright white background.-- The next page turn is only on the right side of the screen (or you can use the middle 4-pad.) Which for long reads can be annoying. If you flip accidently and want to flip back you have to shift hands.-- Only supports ePub and PDF for reading. Does not reflow the pdf like its b/w 5" counterpart the Libre ProThis has a beautiful screen but as a reader, I am very disappointed. I loved their Libre Pro. I bought one of those and used it a month before giving it to whom I bought it for. They are nothing alike. I will be sending this for warranty repair for the battery issues of taking forever to charge and the battery life of 2 hours max now. I'll edit afterward.May 29---My Libre stopped working altogether, froze. Looking at the Libre site this is a common occurrence and had a solution, a firmware update. So I did the firmware update. Not holding my breath. Big warning here, it is not intuitive, it didn't work the way they said it would, and it was complicated. I am very technical, very; I build my own computers, I take my friends and family's laptops and fix them. (mostly virus fixes), I suggest free software and help them through it. Technical. So should have been straight forward, especially since they have step by step from a frozen Libre, or just firmware update with a working one. I should have done this sooner. If you are having battery, shut down, charge issues, this helped. I had to try several connections, starting from different points in the instructions, etc... and finally got it to take the firmware update.Since this firmware update, the Libre is working way better battery wise and doesn't turn off inadvertently while reading anymore. It might last 7-8 hours of continuous read time now. I still don't like the software and have covered the top and bottom of the screen with cardboard for night time reading, but it is working now. I would not re-buy this or suggest this to anyone. I have come to be satisfied with it as a $70 purchase on eBay. I now am reading this at night and my husband uses the Literati.

As a color eBook reader, the Pandigital Novel (R70E200) seems like a great value. One obvious factor is its lower cost, since you can get a factory remanufactured unit for around 1/3 the cost of a B&N NOOK Color. In addition, there are also other minor factors to consider:- The Novel's display (resolution 800x600) has an aspect ratio of 1.33 to 1, while the NookColor's display has wider aspect ratio of 1.7 to 1. So although they all have the same diagonal length of 7 inches, the Planet's screen is actually 10% larger in area! As an eReader, this larger area is a big advantage. On the other hand, a wider screen is better for viewing movies.- The Novel is very lightweight when compared to NookColor: only 7 oz instead of 15 oz. So it is more comfortable to hold with just one hand while reading. Note that the Amazon product description page says '12 oz', but that is the weight of the previous WHITE model (PanDigital 72-70FW). The BLACK model is slightly smaller and much lighter.- The Novel comes pre-installed with the NOOK eReader app. You can easily install other free eReaders (such as 'FBReader'), then go to 'Project Gutenberg' site and download free eBooks to your heart's content. Unfortunately, the Amazon Kindle app is NOT compatible with Novel.On the other hand, there are many limitations you need to know about the Novel, especially if you intend to use it as a Multimedia Internet Tablet:- The Novel has a slow processor (800MHz single-core) and very limited RAM (256MB). This makes it PAINFULLY SLOW in doing any task, even when entering text using the Android keyboard.- Its resistive touch screen is very sluggish. You have to PRESS DOWN and HOLD for about 0.5 second for it to register any click. It works reasonably well when using the included stylus, though.- Novel runs an ancient Android 1.5 operating system. So most new apps are not compatible. It comes with a 'SlideMe' market place, which has very limited selection of apps. That means NO ANGRY BIRDS! You can forget about running YouTube, Amazon Appstore and Google Android Market as well.- The included video player has very limited capability. It is supposed to support MP4, but only in SP (simple profile). I have tested many MP4/AVI files on it and most of them cannot be decoded. Even those few files that can replay still suffer from jerky motion.- Its battery life is quite pathetic at just 3-4 hours (manufacturer claims 6 hours). Then it takes another ~6 hours to fully recharge.[Conclusion]The Pandigital Navel makes a very good, inexpensive color eBook reader. But if you expect to use it as a multimedia internet tablet, you'll be sorely disappointed. Still, consider its present low price, it could serve as an introductory product to the world of Android tablets. Just don't expect it to perform like the real thing. If you want to step up to a passable tablet without spending a lot, consider the Pandigital Planet R70A200 instead.

My mom bought last year's 8.9 model last week and I fell in love with it, so I bought the new 10.1 tab 2. This is my 4th day with it and I absolutely love it. I've been wanting a tablet for over a year(I love tech toys) and finally couldn't take messing around with one that wasn't mine so I had to buy one. I have a 17" laptop that only gets 1.5 hrs on a charge and wanted something smaller that I could do easy internet stuff like twitter, facebook, surfing, and listening to internet radio, podcasts, and music that was smaller and more mobile then my ginormous laptop. While shopping around I essentially looked at mid-priced android tablets, mostly because of my angst toward apple thanks to the awfulness of itunes software.The other tablet that really caught my eye was the Asus Transformer TF300. You can do an easy google search to see where the transformer shines where the galaxy doesn't and vice versa. Ultimately storage space wasn't a huge deal for me and I really have no need for an hdmi out. What won me over the transformer is the display of the galaxy and it is night and day difference for me. Since browsing the internet is 90% of what I'll use a tablet for a great display, where samsung truly shines, was worth more to me then a better speced out transformer. For anyone looking to buy a new 10.1" tablet definitely give the transformer a look. Makes no sense to me- no standard usb port, instead they have an applelike proprietary port- feels like for the price there should be some kind of hdmi out and 32 gb of hard drive space instead of 16Because of the last con I can't give this tablet 5 stars, instead it gets 4.

I've read all the bad press on this item but it's mostly by those wanting desktop performance in a handheld. First as the other reviewer said it is mainly an ereader meaning it won't do Adobe Photoshop CS5. It's a little weighty at 19oz but most books I read tend to be heavy as well. The web surfing is perfectly fine if the wifi connection is a good one. The screen resolution and color is better than most tablets at this price and size, 800x600. I do a lot of photography and just love that I can set it in the stand on a shelf or table and watch a slide show or just display my latest to friends. Just load your jpegs on an SD card and put it in the card slot. If you have a wifi network at home make sure the SSID, that is the name of your network, is set to broadcast the Pandigital won't be able to connect if it is hidden. It's a great piece of equipment just make sure you have the latest firmware installed to get the most out of it. After doing the calibration using my finger on the screen works fine. Had a Kindle but the Pandigital is years beyond except for the 3G connection (always need a wifi connection to access the Web). I would recommend this item.

This is my second ebook reader, and I can see myself slowly turning into an ereader junkie. My first ereader is the white Aluratek Libre Pro, which uses a different screen technology - a reflective LCD screen rather than the e-ink of the Sony (and the Kindle, the Nook, the Kobo ereaders). I am still totally happy with that reader, but being a gadget junkie, I had to get one that uses the e-ink technology. I was planning on getting the new Astak Plus, but since that company is currently having difficulties getting its product to market, I went with the Sony - the silver pocket edition.Let me just say, that some of the most esthetically-pleasing electronic devices I've had in my life have been Sony-designed devices, and the PRS-350 is another in that line. First of all, it is solidly designed; it has an aluminum frame/casing. It doesn't feel fragile. It is very thin, and the "pocket" designation is not a misnomer. The five control buttons on the front of the device are well-placed yet unobtrusive. The stylus fits neatly into a slot on the side of the ereader. The left side of the ereader has a slightly rounded and raised lip, like that of spine on a real book. It's just enough to give the leverage needed to hold the book firmly. The frame is brushed aluminumThe PRS-350 uses the new Pearl e-ink screen, the same one used in the latest version of the Kindle. I don't know how it compares to the other e-ink screens out there, but from the comments on the various ereader forums I belong to, the Pearl screen is sharper and provides greater contrast. I find it very easy to read in most lighting conditions. The PRS-350 also utilizes a touch screen. According to what I've read, it uses infrared technology around the rim of the screen, which eliminates the need for the extra screen that was used in Sony's previous touch screen, and which results in a crisper image. The touch screen is very responsive, and you can change the swiping direction from left-right to right-left, whichever is more convenient for you. The ereader doesn't have any audio capability, so you won't be able to listen to audiobooks on it. It also doesn't have an SD card slot, but really, it's not needed. E-book file sizes are relatively small, so the ereader can store hundreds and hundreds of books. I've currently got 336 on my Sony and still have plenty of free space left on internal storage.Essential bits of information about this device: - It has PDF reflow capability, so PDF text files are handled well - It has 5 font sizes. - It uses a 16-level gray-scale to display images - It uses one serif font; there is no setting to change font styles - It can handle DRM epub books - Formats: .epub, .PDF, .lrf (BBeB), Microsoft Word, .rtf, .txt, .jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp - Screen size is 5", ebooks can be displayed in portrait or landscape view - It comes with 12 dictionaries pre-installed (2 Oxford dictionaries, English <> French, English <> German, English <> Spanish, English <> Italian, English <> Dutch) - It has a handwritten notes application, a text memo function, a picture gallery - Charging is done via USB connection to a computer; a battery charge lasts about two weeks - There is no WiFi or 3G capability - Access speed is fast, the e-ink "black flash" that occurs with each page turn is not distracting because the text flashing belongs to the new page - You will need to buy a case for it - Sony doesn't provide one. Nor does it include an AC adapter; that also has to be bought separately - Book collections are created from the meta-tags associated with each book - There are multiple methods of organizing the books - by author, file name, date added, last read - You can drag-and-drop books into the PRS-350 - you don't need to use the Sony Library software - You can highlight text and create notes right onto the ebook page - Screen can be operated with either a fingertip or the included stylus - neither seems to scratch the screen - It recharges relatively quicklyMy only quibbles with this reader is that I would like more zoom levels - another size between "medium" and "large" - that's where the largest zoom jump currently is, and I think that a midway font size between the two of them would be useful. I would also like the ability to change fonts. Also, as with all 5" readers, PDF files with a lot of images or special formatting are just a PITA to read because of the small screen size. If you will be primarily reading PDF files with a lot of charts and images, then I would recommend that you get one of the larger-screen ereaders; more information can fit on the screen easier. I got spoiled with the Aluratek; that ereader came with a USB cable, an AC adapter, a carrying case, a 2G SD card, 100 ebooks, and a set of earbuds - I didn't have to buy any extra accessories. Sony just gives you the bare minimum to operate the product and you have to buy the case and the adapter.I really like the Sony PRS-350. It is pleasing to the eye, and it works well. It's easy to carry in a pocket or a pocketbook. I still find that I don't need Wifi, so the fact that the Sony does not have that capability is no biggie for me. I don't think that there is a "perfect" ereader out there; they all seem to have their quirks and their pluses and minuses. The key is to figure out what your particular needs are and then find the reader that gives you ~most~ of what you want. I would recommend this Sony reader. I think that you get good value for your money.
