I've been wanting to get a tablet since last year and have been holding out since they announced ICS and Quad-Core processors. I was going to get the Prime for christmas, but it was unavailable, so I decided to wait and see what came out in the spring. I've stayed away from the Prime due to the higher price and GPS issues, so it came down to 3 tablets while making my decision (Transformer Pad, Acer Iconia a510 and the Toshiba Excite 10). All 3 tablets are very similar and met my criteria for a tablet (ICS, Tegra 3, 1280x800 display, HDMI-out, etc.). I had originally ordered the Iconia a510, but it was back-ordered. Then I saw the Excite was available and in stock early on Amazon last week, so I cancelled my order for the Acer and immediately orderd the Toshiba. What ultimately sold me on the Toshiba model was the Gorilla Glass, the Stock ICS experience and the Full SD card slot. My wife takes a lot of pictures and will love being able to just pop the SD card out of the camera and into the tablet.I received the device yesterday and it is very fast and slim. I used it for a good 3 hours straight last night with music playing in the background and experienced no lag at all and still had 70% battery remaining after the 3 hours. The Excite 10 is very well built and feels sturdy in the hands. Not too heavy, but just enough that it doesn't feel like you are going to break it. The WiFi signal was very strong and didn't have any issues there. The speakers sound pretty good considering how small they are. The setup took no time at all and with the Google Restore function, I had all of my phone apps (about 100) on my tablet within 20 minutes.So far I haven't come up with too many Cons for this device. If I had to list some they would be the following:1. There is a good amount of pre-installed junk on the device. Not that big of a deal since apps can be disabled in ICS.2. The Charger is proprietary. It would be nice to charge over microUSB, but with the size of tablet batteries, it would take forever to fully charge, so it is understandable why it doesn't.Overall, I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it.UPDATE 5/11/12:1. I wanted to point out that I ran AnTuTu Benchmarking tool and it listed the Excite 10 as a 1.3 GHZ Tegra 3 processor and got a better average score than every other device listed.2. Some of the pre-installed junk can be uninstalled, but some can only be disabled.3. I was able to plug the charger into my Laptop and Car USB ports and it was able to charge. It was charging slower than the wall plug, but a nice feature if the battery is running low.

I have been researching tablets for a month. My brother has a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and my kids have a IPad 1. I played with the Samsung for about 3 hours one night, and it seemed decent. However, the Samsung was like the IPad..... only one "do all" port at the bottom, no expansion possibilities, and accessory dongles that you need to purchase for USB or HDMI. I liked the idea of the ASUS Transformer Prime, but was not going to fork over $499 for a non-op GPS (because of the aluminum body of the tablet, the signal can't get to the antenna). The regular Transcormer seemed OK, but I just was not sold for $399. Then, I kept coming close to buying the Motorola Xoom.... built very well, very well supported with OS upgrades etc, but the screen is a very basic TFT.... hard to justify even the closeout price of $399 for that. So, I PURCHASED the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet, since I have their regular Thinkpad laptops, the screen is an IPS, gorilla glass, and it was lots of ports and outputs. Had the Lenovo for two days before I returned it, here is why: Aside from the stellar build quality, the GPS stank, the speaker was HORRIBLE (I could not even hear the diatogue from my Netflix movie). I sat outside for an hour with the thinkpad two different times trying to acquire and lock onto satellites with a good GPS app, and it was able to find one, sometimes two satellites, and NEVER lock on. Unacceptable. Returned it. Went to a big box store and noticed a few of the new ASUS Transformer Pad 300's in the lower display case... but they would not sell me one until the 29th, even though the day I was there WAS the launch date!!! So, I decided that this Acer would be OK to try. Even though Amazon was priced $20 LESS (with free shipping) than the big box store, I still purchased it at the store.... so that I could have it today. It comes in nice retail packaging, included the USB host adapter and charge cord. All that I can say is that it FEELS like a premium product (has a rubberized feel on the backside, no flex), works like a premium product, looks like a premium product. The GPS found 16 satellites within 3 minutes with the same app that I installed on the Lenovo (INDOORS!!!). The speakers are plenty loud enough and clear. The IPS (yes it's IPS) screen is decent. I also confirmed that the A510 has Gorilla Glass. The A510 is a clean execution of the new processor and ICS. Mine DOES NOT heat up.... not sure I'm believing that nonsense reported by a few. Sure, the thing has a battery roughly twice the size of most tablets, so it must get a little warm during charging. I downloaded a widget that monitors battery temperature, and it runs at 84 degrees. It is just a nice machine, is fast and snappy. One note... the specs say that the camera can film 720p, but when you actually use it, there are 3 settings: FULL HD 1080p, HD 720p, and VGA. Maybe since the OS on this is really 4.0.3 and not 4.0.0, there could have been a camera update?? Or are the published specs just wrong or unclear? For the reviewer who had charging problems..... At first I thought I had a charging problem, but the way the charge cable is designed, it slides in 95% of the way, many people will think it's all the way in, because it does feel like it is, BUT you must push firmly for the "click", which is what is required to charge it. It is designed this way so that it won't fall out, unlike tablets like the Xoom which has a charging cable that loostens over time and falls out.UPDATE***After digging deep into Acer forums regarding the heat coming from the tablet's right side....... the consensus is to DISABLE McAfee Virus Scan app which runs processes full time..... so I did, and guess what...... now there is barely any sign of warmth, not to mention actual heat.

I'm typing this review on the A500 now. I was deciding between an Ipad2 (and had actually purchased one), an Asus Transformer, and the A500. I became frustrated with the limitations of the Ipad 2, and once it became clear that the Asus Tranformer wouldn't have adequate stock for weeks, I decided to give the A500 a try. No regrets, and I ended up returning the Ipad2.Why this is better than an I pad 2 -- Micro SD card slot gives this all the memory you practically need with just a 16 gb model. Cards are cheap - you can get a 32 gb card for $50. No card slot on the I pad 2.- USB port makes file transferring easy. You can plug in external flash drives or a USB keyboard. Yes, it has a USB host port so it can externally power or charge devices through the port. No USB on the I pad 2 without buying a $30 adapter.-HDMI port - easy projection to your HDTV. The A500 screen has about the same aspect ratio as most HDTVs, so you will be able to take full advantage of the area on your HDTV. With the Ipad2, you need a separate $39 adapter for this, plus the IPad 2 screen is a different aspect ratio than most HDTVs.-Android Honeycomb is way better than Apple iOS. It's much more customizable and supports true multitasking. Yes, iOS has a simpler, dumber interface that your grandma can use, but for me it is too simple and limited. Plus, with Honeycomb you are not chained to using ITunes to manage your content. You can just plug it into the USB port of your PC and manage files like you would any external USB drive.-If you use Google applications like Gmail, Picasa, Docs, Maps, Youtube, etc., the integration is excellent. You log in with your Gmail account and all your Google data is synched to the device within minutes.Don't believe the reviews about lack on apps for Honeycomb or frequent crashes. I have had almost no issues in a week of use. Most of the apps for Android smartphones I tried work fine and there are over 65,000 of them now. The Android market is better than the Apple market because there are a lot more free apps.Because of the USB port this is a better value than the Transformer too, which doesn't have USB port without the separate docking station.This is a fast, powerful tablet, great screen, long battery life (I'm getting two days with normal use). A good value.-----------------------------UPDATE 10/20/11: Had the A500 tablet for 6 months. Netflix works on it now, and it got an update that enabled Skype and Google Video Chat as well. The OS updates to Android 3.1 and 3.2 made it run faster and smoother. However, after the Android 3.1 update the microphone sound got pretty muffled to the point that video chatting or using it as a camcorder became pretty poor. I would have to speak rather loudly or directly into the speaker for it to get picked up. I checked around online and this seems to be a problem that many people have experienced due to the OS update on their A500 tablets. There were rumors that the Android 3.2 update would fix the problem, but this didn't happen. I downgraded from 5 stars to 4 stars because of this.Overall I am happy with the Android Honeycomb tablet experience and not regretting returning the IPad, but I wanted something that would work flawlessly for video chatting. So I purchased an Asus Transformer, updated it to Android 3.2, and tried out the microphone, and it worked fine. So I ended up selling my A500 and am using the Transformer now instead. Had the microphone worked flawlessly, the A500 is still the better tablet in my mind than the Transformer due to the full-sized USB port and the metal construction, but they are pretty close. If you don't plan to use the microphone I think the A500 is still the better deal. But Asus seems to do a better job of pushing out OS updates.I recommend you'all take a serious look at the Honeycomb tablets. There are many available now, all pretty close in specs, for much better prices than IPads and they are more versatile. With the upcoming launch of Android 4.0, the operating systems for smartphones and tablets will be unified, which will make many more apps useable on the tablets. Just like Android smartphones eventually blew away the IPhone in market share, Android tablets will do the same to IPads someday, I am confident.
